Accra, Sept. 25, GNA – The Ndede Limited Company, manufacturers of Tenack boots, on Thursday presented 150 pairs of Wellington boots to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in support of this year’s Farmers Day celebration.

Mr. Eric Opoku, Minister of Food and Agriculture, received the donation on behalf of the Ministry and assured that the items would go directly to farmers.

This donation is not to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, it is through us to the farmers, and we are giving the assurance that all the 150 pairs will be smoothly transferred to them,” Mr. Opoku said.

He urged other companies to support the event, noting that “agriculture is the foundation upon which every activity should be done.”

The Minister commended the company, describing it as the first to respond to the Ministry’s appeal for corporate support towards the 2025 celebration. He further encouraged farmers to reciprocate the gesture by patronising Ghana-made products.

Providing updates on preparations, Mr. Opoku disclosed that the Ministry had proposed a venue for the celebration, which was awaiting confirmation by the President.

“As soon as that is done, we will launch the programme and announce the full details,” he said.

He explained that technical teams were currently compiling the list of deserving awardees, with measures to ensure transparency in the selection of winners.

“We don’t want a situation where somebody will emerge as the best farmer when the person does not even have a farm. All shortlisted farms will be shown publicly so that when we settle on the winners, we all know we have done a fair job without partisanship or discrimination,” the Minister said.

Outlining some reforms to ensure that awardees received their prizes on time, the Minister said:  “We are no longer going to credit the awards. Whatever award you win will be delivered to you at the venue.”

Farmers Day is marked annually to honour the contributions of farmers and fishers to Ghana’s development.

Nana Ehoa Acquaye, General Manager, Ndede Limited, said the company was committed to the welfare of farmers as major stakeholders, hence the donation.

She applauded farmers for their continuous efforts in feeding the nation and contributing towards Ghana’s food security.
